Efficient Monitoring using the RHT Climate 485 at the San Bartolo Electrical Substation

The ability to monitor critical variables (such as temperature and humidity) in real time is essential to ensure safety and operational efficiency in industrial facilities. In Peru, Luz del Sur S.A.A., one of the main electricity distribution companies, needed to improve the monitoring process of the San Bartolo electrical substation. Thanks to the collaboration of Zamtsu Corporación, a NOVUS Automation distributor, it was possible to implement a solution that not only optimized the monitoring process but also established the foundations for future expansions.

The Demand: Accurate, Real-Time Monitoring

The main challenge being faced by Luz del Sur involved the need to monitor temperature and humidity in specific areas of the electrical substation. Until then, they used portable equipment that required manual processing of the recorded data. This method was inefficient, as it involved waiting times and did not allow for immediate action when faced with any critical variation in environmental conditions.

Having more than 30 years’ experience in the industrial automation market, Zamtsu identified that the ideal solution required an interface that would integrate efficiently with the plant’s existing SCADA system, ensuring constant and secure communication.

The Solution: The RHT Climate 485 from NOVUS Automation

After a detailed analysis of the client’s technical needs, it was determined that the RHT Climate 485 from NOVUS was the best option for this project. This temperature and humidity transmitter, which features a RS485 interface, can be integrated directly into the substation’s SCADA system and allows critical variables to be monitored in real time.

Choose the RHT Climate 485 was a crucial decision, as it provided the precision and reliability needed for an environment so demanding as an electrical substation. Its installation was simple and, within a few days, Luz del Sur had begun obtaining data in real time, improving its ability to respond to changes in environmental conditions.

The Results: Agility and Operational Efficiency

By implementing the RHT Climate 485, the client has noticed a remarkable increase in the speed of its monitoring processes. By removing the need to use portable equipment and manually transfer data to create reports, response times have been significantly reduced and decision-making accuracy has improved.

In addition, the results obtained with this equipment have been so positive that Luz del Sur plans to install 50 additional units next month, expanding the scope of automated monitoring in its facilities.

A solution for the future

The initial project included the installation of two pieces of equipment as part of a test. After confirming the robustness and precision of the RHT Climate 485 transmitters, the client purchased a further 25 units. This solution not only fulfills Luz del Sur’s current needs, but also prepares the company for future challenges, allowing it to expand its monitoring nationwide.

Zamtsu and NOVUS Automation have been strategic allies in this process, providing cutting-edge technological solutions that turn challenges into opportunities for improvement.
